The stadium opened under its current name in 1930 with the construction taking just over ten months at a cost of just over $750,000, $10.5 million in present day dollars. The latest renovation was in 1996, which added over 30,000 seats at a cost of $50 million.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are members of the Independent Conference of the within National Collegiate Athletic Association. They are known by their team colors consisting of navy blue and gold. Their mascot is the Notre Dame Leprechaun. Past players include Joe Montana, Tim Brown and Ross Browner.
The stadium currently holds 80,795 fans. Currently, it is the 18th largest stadium in the NCAA.
