The Michigan City Public Library is a volunteer organization that offers a range of programs and related services to meet the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of individuals. It operates through various departments, such as circulation, reference, learning center, public relations and youth services. The library maintains a meeting room, as well as typewriters and fax and photocopy machines. It offers Internet access for the general public, as well as Dial-A-Story, which is a program that includes a variety of nonprint items, such as puppets, cassette sets, CDs and magazines for children in grades two through seven. The Michigan City Public Library additionally organizes various meetings, guest speaker sessions and social events for its members. Through its reference department, it sends reading materials to individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to visit the library due to physical disabilities and incapacitations.
