Vigo County Head Start is a federally funded program that serves pre-school age children from low-income families and promotes a learning environment. It organizes several activities to assist in the mental, social, emotional and physical development of children. Vigo County Head Start is a part of the Western Indiana Community Action Agency, which is a nonprofit organization that was established through the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. The agency serves adult citizens, physically and mentally challenged individuals and economically disadvantaged people. The Western Indiana Community Action Agency sponsors a variety of programs, and is funded through federal, state and local sources. Vigo County Head Start is based in Terre Haute, Ind.
