About Family Development Services Children are at the core of Family Development Services. Formed in 1996 and headquartered in Indianapolis, we are an early childhood education organization that operates the federally funded Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Indiana's Marion and Hamilton counties. Founded in 1964, Head Start is the country's largest early childhood education program, serving nearly one million children annually. Locally, Family Development Services provides Head Start and Early Head Start educational programs and social services to more than 2, 000 children and their families each year through our 11 schools and service centers. Our vision is focused on the community we serve. We endeavor to deliver a premier preschool education experience for children, and provide their families with high-quality support services, such as parent education, health care assistance, referrals for job counseling, emergency assistance and literacy skills support. Like a beautiful flower or tree, children grow and blossom with care and attention. Family Development Services addresses the total needs of your child and family through four core components that nourish their long-term development: Education, Health and Nutrition Services, Parent and Caregiver Involvement, and Social Services. We also work with many partners throughout Indianapolis to support our schools and social services programs, including public schools, colleges and universities, health and social services organizations, and corporations. Through these partnerships, we can deliver such vital services as teen parent counseling, parenting skills programs, referrals for job training and employment counseling, health and nutrition services, fatherhood programs, literacy education, and childcare skills training.
