In 1949, Alec K. Gianaras founded Transformer Manufacturers to begin manufacturing his own line of transformers. The company operates under one name, Transformer Manufacturers, which includes its two manufacturing facilities. Until the early 1970s, TMI primarily focused on the radio and television industry, which was concentrated in Chicago. As the industry changed, TMI reacted and supplies transformers, chokes and toroids for products in the audio, computer, control, food service equipment, lighting, medical, power conditioners and telecommunications industries. TMI also makes small appliance-type, dry-type, magnetics. These magnetics are under 30kva, and are single or 3-phase type transformers. The company s products are custom designed by TMI engineers to meet the specifications and requirements of customers. All of the company s transformers are designed and produced in the United States. Headquartered in Norridge, Ill., the Transformer Manufacturers is a privately owned company that employs nearly 50 people.
