The Southern Will County Cooperative For Special Education, also known as SOWIC, offers instructional programs for early childhood students and students with emotional disorders, mental retardation, communication disorders and autism. It administers more than 10 school districts that provide special education programs and services for over 2,240 students with disabilities. The cooperative also offers the districts with support personnel including administrators, psychologists, social workers, speech/language therapists, occupational and physical therapists, a behavior and learning consultant. Additionally, it provides itinerant services for students with vision, hearing and physical disabilities. The Southern Will County Cooperative For Special Education offers early intervention screening services for children between the ages of three and five. founded in 1969, the cooperative is located in Joliet, Ill.
