This is one of two convents in Wilmette for the Sisters of Christian Charity. The sisters have been making waves in the Wilmette community since 1918 and are parishioners at Saint Joseph Parish. The sisters host an annual "Peace Pole Prayer Service," to which the entire community is invited.

Sisters of Christian Charity

The Sisters of Christian Charity originated in Germany in the early months of 1849. Sister Pauline and four other women were the first members. Initially they took care of blind children. Later they broadened their care to include men and women of every generation, rich or poor, infant or the aged. Currently there are Sisters of Christian Charity in Germany, Italy, the Philippines, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and the United States. Convent of the Holy Spirit is located in back of Christian Heritage Academy on Waukegan Road. It is a private complex on private property not generally open to the public. Convent of the Holy Spirit was founded in 1901 and its main focus is muli-fold. It provides spiritual care to the Sisters and supports many ministries. These include pastoral care for people in the hospital, working with the local community to improve living conditions and employment prospects, and making rosaries for prisons, hospitals and homes for the aged.
