It's hard for a building to stand out in a town already admired for its rich architectural bounty, but Pleasant Home, just south of the busy Marion St. shopping corridor, is one such example. Pleasant Home, also known as the John Farson House, was built in 1897 by noted Prairie School architect George Maher. It remains in great condition due to the foundation, which is dedicated to maintaining and restoring the Home's impressive beauty. The foundation is also committed to documenting, interpreting and preserving information about life in the village in the beginning of the 20th century.
Pleasant Home, a National Historic Landmark, is open for tours: $5.00 per person, $3.00 for those between five and 18 years old and free for those under five. The grounds around Pleasant Home are almost as impressive as the stately home itself.
