The faculty and administrators of Oak Park Elementary School District 97 are primarily responsible for the education of the more than 5,500 local students attending the village's two middle schools and eight elementary schools.
The mission of the district is to turn students into "knowledgeable people, socially responsible citizens, quality producers, effective communicators, collaborative workers and critical thinkers."
The curriculum includes classes in art, mathematics, music, physical education, health, reading, science, social studies, technology, world language and writing.
District 97 is led by Supt. Albert G. Roberts, named to the post in the summer of 2010. He's aided by two assistant superintendents and various administrators and directors.
The school board consists of a president and vice president, as well as five board members. They're tasked with setting the district's educational and financial policies. Generally, the board meets twice monthly, on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
