The Northern Illinois Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that distributes food to more than 500 sites, such as food shelters, child care agencies, soup kitchens, pantries and after-school programs throughout northern Illinois. The organization receives its donated food supplies from the government, food manufacturers, wholesalers, restaurants and charitable organizations. It supports various meal programs, such as the Holiday Meal Box that provides a traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner to low-income families. It also operates a mobile pantry. The Northern Illinois Food Bank was founded in 1983, and is headquartered in St. Charles with branches in Park City and Rockford, Ill. It is a member of America's Second Harvest - The Nation's Food Bank Network.
