Northbrook's Historical Society and History Museum is housed in a building that dates to roughly 1894. Originally constructed as a hotel, the building was a restaurant and tavern from 1901 until the 1970s, when the Historical Society purchased the property and moved it from Waukegan and Shermer to its present location south of the Village Green.
The museum includes rotating and permanent exhibits on the first floor and a recreated 1890s home on the second, with original portraits of Northbrook residents and antique furniture. In the back of the museum is a consignment shop selling antiques and collectibles.
