Marlene Rucks opened Nirvana Yoga Studio to bring together yoga teachers who would teach the traditional aspects of yoga. She believes, however, that there is not a typical Nirvana class, and that all classes will challenge students and teach them something new. Her classes draw freely from a variety of styles and traditions, and there is a consistent emphasis on natural awareness of breath and the ability to utilize asana as a practice for life and listening.
Including Marlene, there are about 10 instructors teaching various classes for beginners to advanced students. The studio also has a online shop that is dedicated to eco-friendliness. All of the items are handmade by local artists and are guaranteed to be organic or upcycled. The studio donates 5 percent of the proceeds to benefit local charities.
