The National Insurance Crime Bureau is a nonprofit organization that receives support from more than 1,000 property and casualty insurance and car rental companies, parking services providers, utility companies and transportation-related firms. It partners with insurers and law enforcement agencies to facilitate the identification, detection and prosecution of offenders. Founded in 1992, the organization prevents and detects insurance fraud and vehicle thefts through information analysis, investigations, training and public awareness. It also offers a variety of educational programs that consist of special investigation academies, the National Insurance Crime Training Academy, FraudSmartsm Training Program and online training in law enforcement. The organization produces a variety of public awareness materials in English and Spanish that provide information on insurance fraud and vehicle theft issues. The published materials include brochures, posters, newsletters, fact sheets, flood vehicle databases, manuals and audiovisual materials.
