According to Bureau Chief Jim French, the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District serves a whole gamut of emergency and non-emergency needs. The department existed as the Lisle Fire Department upon its opening in the mid-1940's, then expanded to cover Woodridge in the 1960's. It is rated a Class 1 fire district by the Insurance Services Office, which is the highest rating in the nation.
Today they serve 70,000 residents on over 5,000 calls per year. Their services have expanded to include medical services (including technical rescue), hazardous materials collection, fire and arson investigation, water rescue and monthly CPR classes. The department also conducts building fire code enforcement, inspections and reviews pending building plans for code compliance.
Station 5 is located on the northern edge of Lisle at the intersection of Route 3 and Yackley Avenue. Two buildings are on the property that hours a maintenance vehicle, two engines and a medical vehicle.
