With 590,000 electric and 415,000 natural gas customers across 15,000 square miles of central, east central and southern Illinois. 8,400 distribution miles of gas main and 40,000 circuit miles of electrical line. Major communities served include Decatur, Belleville, Bloomington-Normal (electric only), Champaign-Urbana, Centralia, East St. Louis (gas only), Galesburg, Granite City, Hillsboro, Jacksonville, LaSalle, Maryville and Mt. Vernon. In total, AmerenIP s service area includes 11 cities with populations greater than 30,000 and 37 cities with populations greater than 10,000. AmerenIP owns no significant generation assets. It purchases the majority of the electricity it supplies to retail customers through long-term power purchase agreements. AmerenIP has direct interconnections with eight providers, including AmerenCILCO and is a participant, with AmerenUE and AmerenCIPS, in the Illinois-Missouri Power Pool, formed in 1952
