Founded in 1895, Illinois State Water Survey is concerned with water and atmospheric resources. The agency, also known as ISWS, is a unit of the University of Illinois Department of Chemistry. It surveys the water for tracing the spread of waterborne diseases. The agency includes the Center for Atmospheric Science, Center for Chemistry & Technology, Center for Groundwater Science and Center for Watershed Science, as well as the National Atmospheric Deposition Program. Illinois State Water Survey features monitoring, analytical and mathematical modeling capabilities. It has expertise in producing and disseminating scientific and technological information and services and products related with the environment and economic development.
