The Department of Public Works is responsible for water distribution, wastewater collection, stormwater detention and snow removal. It is also engaged in the maintenance of public streets, sidewalks, buildings and grounds, and traffic signals and control signs. The department plans and oversees various infrastructure construction projects, such as water main replacement, sanitary sewer line rehabilitation, and street overlay and reconstruction. The Department of Public Works operates a utility division that is responsible for the supply and maintenance of water service, as well as the maintenance of water distribution infrastructure, including water towers, reservoirs and pumping stations. Its waste disposal division provides garbage recycling, yard waste disposal and tree branch chipping services. The department is governed by the Village of Homewood, which operates community development, finance, fire and police departments.
