The Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union Welfare-Pension Funds are multi-employer Taft-Hartley Funds established to meet the health care and retirement needs of participants working in the hospitality industry. Maintained by collective bargaining agreements between the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union and certain employers, the Welfare-Pension Funds are governed by a Board of Trustees composed of an equal number of union and employer trustees. The pension fund has more than 515 contributing employers, approximately 33,000 active participants, and 16,000 retirees. The plan is a defined benefit, which guarantees a monthly benefit amount. Monthly benefits are determined by a formula, based on the number of hours worked, along with the pension contribution rate negotiated in the contract. Headquartered in Aurora, Ill., the fund has regional offices located throughout the United States.
