Germantown is a village in Clinton County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,118 at the 2000 census.
The village of Germantown was established in 1833. Formerly known as Hanover, Germantown is said to be one of the first true German settlements in Illinois. It was originally called Hanover because it was the name of the first settlers native hometown in Germany.
Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Red Schoendienst was born in Germantown on February 2, 1923.There is a baseball field and park in Germantown named after him. Inside the park, there is a small memorial dedicated to him.
