Fermilab is a particle physics laboratory based in Batavia. Constructed in 1967, the lab houses a four-mile long Tevatron which is the world's second-highest energy particle accelerator. Fermilab conducts a variety of experiments by making particles collide. Its research makes superconducting magnets possible. These are used in MRI machines. It also researches new processing instruments and electrical circuits and explores ways to treat cancer with particle beams.
