In 1950, Mexican immigrant Raul Lopez began manufacturing and peddling tortillas as a side job while working as a trackman on the Illinois Central Railroad. His part-time venture eventually became El Milagro, one of the top tortilla operations in the Midwest. Based in Chicago, the company offers a full line of tortilla products for a variety of Mexican cuisine. Its corn tortillas start with whole kernel corn that is selected and ground in the company s plant. El Milagro also makes flour and wheat tortillas and tortilla chips. In addition to its four Chicago area locations, the company also has operations in Austin, Tex., and Atlanta.
