The DePaul Community Chorus, founded in 1989, is a true community chorus comprised of 140 members of all ages, ethnicities, and musical backgrounds. They perform a wide range of repertoire, from choral masterworks to folk songs and music from stage and screen, presenting three concerts each year, including one with a full orchestra.
Under the direction of Stephen Blackwelder, a veteran conductor and choral singer, the DePaul Community Chorus aims to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. They emphasize the importance of community, body and energy awareness, shared focus and purpose, and emotional and intellectual growth, providing a window for singers to experience the potential of music both within themselves and among their fellow performers.
