The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is a part of Sangamon County in Illinois, which spread across an area of more than 875 square miles and has a population of over 188,900 people. The office is responsible for maintaining law and order in the county. It has an operations division that includes a K-9 unit, tactical negotiations team, honor guard, and patrol and court security and juvenile transport sections. The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office has a support services division that consists of records and civil process sections. It operates Sangamon County Detention Facility, which was opened in 1991 and houses nearly 310 prisoners. The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office offers information on traffic and general laws.
