The Countryside Fire Protection District is an independent government body that serves Vernon Hills, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Indian Creek and parts of unincorporated Lake County across 24 square miles.
The district incorporated on July 14, 1939, and opened its first station on Midlothian Road in Mundelein on Jan. 1, 1959. Station 2, located in Vernon Hills, opened in 1976.
The Countryside Fire Protection District is accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and has 44 full-time firefighter and paramedics.
