The Elmwood Park Police Department works to prevent, detect and investigate criminal activities through the enforcement of local, state and federal laws. It operates patrol, records, auxiliary and traffic units. The department operates a communication center that answers various calls and dispatches personnel for police, fire, and medical emergency and nonemergency cases. The Elmwood Park Police Department conducts various child safety and community-oriented policing programs. It supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which helps children avoid involvement with drugs, gangs and violence. The department also hosts the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program. The Elmwood Park Police Department also offers copies of police reports.
