History
Carmel Montessori Academy provides the classic Montessori experience of a small, virtue-based community. Our teaching methods are based on the research of Maria Montessori, interpreted for today's children by qualified and nurturing Montessori faculty. The two acre campus with farm animals and natural outdoor play area give our students a rural experience, rare in the Chicago suburbs. Our weekly field trips help connect us to the larger community. In 1985 an Erdkinder program for students ages 12-18 was founded, enabling us to serve children through high school graduation. Carmel Montessori Academy was accredited by the American Montessori Society in 1987 and the North Central Association in 2005. CMA remains family owned and operated. Carmen LaFranzo, the founder, is the principal, and her son Jacob LaFranzo has been the administrative head of CMA since 2004. Carmel Montessori Academy has provided an authentic Montessori experience for forty years.
