With one of its locations in Gary, Ind., United States Steel Corporation is one of the largest steel manufacturing plants. It is located on a more than 3,000-acre facility and includes steelmaking and finishing facilities. It manufactures a wide range of sheets, hot-strip mill plates and tin products. It also produces hot- and cold-rolled and galvanized sheet products for customers in automotive, metal building components, home construction and appliance markets. In addition, the manufacturing plant produces various tin mill products, which are used in the manufacturing of food and beverage containers, aerosol and paint cans and pails. Its production facility also has various machines and equipment, including blast furnaces and vacuum degassers; ladle metallurgical facilities; temper mills and electrolytic cleaning lines. It has an annual raw steelmaking capacity of more than 7.5 million tons.
