American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, founded in 1916, represents more than 6,000 physicians and other health care professionals, specializing in the field of occupational and environmental medicine. ACOEM is one of the largest medical societies in the United States dedicated to promoting the health of workers through preventive medicine, clinical care, research and education. The college comprises more than 30 component societies in the U.S., and Canada, with members holding scientific meetings and networking on a regular basis. It sponsors the annual American Occupational Health Conference, conducts continuing educational courses, and offers training in drug and alcohol testing, impairment and disability evaluation, and board reviews in occupational medicine. It publishes the monthly Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, ACOEM Report newsletter, e-news, MRO Update newsletter, CDME Review newsletter, and books including the Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines. ACOEM is located in Elk Grove Village, Ill.
