The Adams County Sheriff's Department is a law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. It serves and processes various writs, orders, subpoenas and other civil papers for local courts and other county and state departments. The Adams County Sheriff's Department operates a jail and detention center that houses pretrial, presentenced, and county- and state-sentenced prisoners. The department provides a variety of community services, such as fingerprinting, background checks, vehicle registration, gun permits, and domestic violence and sexual offenses prevention. Located in Quincy, Ill., the Adams County Sheriff's Department supports the Crime Stoppers program, which is affiliated with the National Crime Stoppers Organization.
