Founded locally in 1993, Zeppole Baking Company is a family owned and operated artisan bakery where creating delectable hand-crafted bread and pastries is their passion. In fact, Zeppole is consistently named Boise's Best Local Bakery in Boise Weekly's annual Readers' Poll. There is no shortcut to making Zeppole's wonderfully crusty rustic loaves, fresh from European stone hearth ovens. That flour, along with water, salt, yeast and natural starters, are the basic building blocks for Zeppole breads. No preservatives or artificial flavors are ever used. Like a good microbrew beer, high-quality bread needs time to develop body and character, and Zeppole refuses to rush this process. Their breads are cold fermented for 12 to 24 hours before baking, which develops deep, complex flavors, a texture that remains moist and chewy and a hearty crust. Zeppole was named Boise's Small Business of the Year by the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce in 2010.
