The Idaho Geological Survey (IGS) is the leading agency in collecting and disseminating geologic information and mineral data for the state of Idaho. With offices in Moscow and Boise, the IGS has been serving the state since 1919, providing timely and relevant geologic information to support various industries and land-use decisions.
The IGS conducts research, produces geologic maps, and provides information on natural resources such as metallic and industrial minerals, groundwater, oil and gas, and geothermal energy. Additionally, the IGS conducts research on geologic hazards and disseminates data to mitigate their impacts. Through publications, interactive web map apps, and outreach efforts, the IGS aims to educate the public and promote excellence in the teaching and practice of earth sciences.
