Greene Map
Greene is a city in Butler County, Iowa, along the Shell Rock River, and along Butler County's northern border, where Butler and Floyd counties meet. The population was 1,099 at the 2000 census. Greene is the headquarters of the Iowa Northern Railway.
The city was first called Elm Springs, but changed its name when Judge George Greene, president of the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway, donated $1,200 for the establishment of a library.
