History
Our beginnings go back to the butcher shop opened in 1940 by Tokichiro Yashima in Maebaru, a small agricultural town in Fukuoka, Japan. It was Tokichiro's son, Takemi, who came up with the idea of opening a yakitori restaurant using the meat from the family shop, but it was Tokichiro's grandson, Katsunori who actually made this idea into a reality and created Hachibei after his apprenticeship at Yakitori Matabei in Karatsu, Japan. Katsunori opened the first Yakitori Hachibei in a modest space in Maebaru in 1983. Not bound by fixed ideas of what a yakitori restaurant should be, we pride ourselves on our creative style. As we go forward, we are passionate about keeping this tradition alive, always striving for excellence and innovation.
