The Sacred Rudraksha Forest in Kapaa, HI is home to the only Rudraksha grove in the Western world. Planted by Gurudeva in 1978, the forest consists of 108 trees that reach a height of fifty feet and produce hundreds of thousands of rare cobalt blue fruits each year. Visitors are invited to sit among the sacred trees from 8am to 4pm daily, where they can rest, meditate, have a picnic, or share stories with their children.
The Rudraksha tree, scientifically known as Eleocarpus ganitrus, is renowned for its unique blue fruits, which have a thin layer of edible flesh. In Ayurveda, the seeds of the Rudraksha tree are ground with healing herbs and given to patients with heart disease to strengthen the cardiac muscle. The wood of the Rudraksha tree is also notable, as it was used in World War I for making airplane propellers and is highly regarded in India.
