History
Japan International Karate Center was founded in Hawaii in 1962 by Kiyohisa Hirano, former Japan National Champion from Yokohama. Over many years, JIKC has developed a karate style which combines elements of Wado-ryu, Shotokan, and Okinawan Shorin-ryu. We have established hundreds of dojos and taught tens of thousands of adults and children the Way of Life through Karate. Our Kapolei dojo was established in 1997 on the grounds of Seagull School. Marc O'Reilly was a direct student of Sensei Hirano, became an instructor in 2001, and took over the Kapolei dojo in 2006 when he returned from his deployment in Iraq. Sensei O'Reilly opened the full-time Kapolei facility at its current location in 2010.
