Joint Astronomy Centre, located in Hilo, Hawaii, provides services and support to enable visiting and staff astronomers to undertake astronomical research. The centre offers various programs and projects in astronomical research and also offers the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope and the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope. It also offers the Joint Astronomy Centre observation management project. The project provides tools and defines processes to aid astronomical observation at the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope and United Kingdom Infrared Telescope. With a diameter of 15-meters, the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope is one of the largest astronomical telescopes in the world that is specifically designed to operate in the submillimeter wavelength band of the spectrum. The telescope is used to study the solar system, interstellar dust and gas, and distant galaxies.
