In 1964, W. C. Duesenberg, then branch manager of Kurt Hitke and Company, purchased the assets of the Atlanta office and changed the name to Southern Insurance Underwriters. The principal business written in 1964 was non-standard automobile, taxicabs and local/long haul trucks. The company continues to write these lines as well as specialty general liability lines and all lines of property and casualty coverage. Southern Insurance Underwriters represented two companies, National Indemnity Company of Omaha, Neb., and Midland National Insurance Company of Chicago. It has expanded and represents more than 35 admitted and non-admitted specialty companies, such as Lloyd's of London, and several standard companies. The company has its headquarters in Atlanta and an office in Orlando, Fla. It has a range of property, casualty and transportation products and specializes in hard to place, specialty and excess and surplus lines risks.
