Smith Transitional Center is a part of the Georgia Department of Corrections, which works to protect and serve the public from convicted offenders. It helps to provide a safe and secure environment for the citizens of Georgia. The center employs more than 15,000 individuals and oversees over 55,000 inmates in state facilities, as well as nearly 140,000 probationers under its supervision. Smith Transitional Center has an administration division that provides financial and asset management services. Its operations, planning and training division has a communications center and office of health services and offers reentry, engineering and construction services. The department owns a public corporation, Georgia Correctional Industries, which offers road signs, janitorial chemicals, and office and institutional furniture.
