The National CARES Mentoring Movement is a pioneering community-mobilization initiative that addresses the devastating impact of intergenerational Black poverty. With a network of 58 U.S. city affiliates, they are the nation's leading organization in recruiting, training, and engaging African American mentors. Their holistic programming aims to advance Black children growing up in poverty by providing emotional, social, academic, and career-readiness support, helping them become self-sustaining contributors to their families, communities, and society.
Through evidence-based healing initiatives and 32-week-long curricula, the National CARES Mentoring Movement helps children heal from the traumas of poverty, instilling resilience, critical thinking skills, racial pride, and a love for learning and wellness. With over 140,000 mentors and local CARES Affiliate Leaders, they are dedicated to advancing isolated and marginalized Black children who are often overlooked by society. Their mission is to ensure the well-being and success of Black children living in poverty, providing them with the support and opportunities they need to overcome challenges and thrive.
