Heritage Park, which includes two connections to the Silver Comet Trail, was developed so that visitors could gain an understanding of the historic and natural sites within and around the park.
The park is partially within the Covered Bridge Historic District, which was impacted by the construction of the East West Connector. Because of this the Cobb County Department of Transportation agreed to acquire and develop 105 acres of passive parkland, which is known as Phase One of Heritage Park.
The park also includes Civil War trenches, 14.3 acres of wetland preservation, unique wildlife and the historic ruins of a factory known as the "Woolen Mill." It also includes a 2,560 sq. ft. Nature Interpretive Center, two picnic pavilions, a historic cemetery and a 1.7-mile soft-surface trail.
