A day and boarding school, New Day Gables Academy was founded as Gables Academy in 1961 by Dr. James Meffen, who saw a need for specialized instruction for students with learning disabilities who weren't being helped by public schools.
Originally located in Coral Gables, Florida, the school is now in the historic district of Stone Mountain, with a second location at 1836 Rockbridge Road (at the former site of Grace Heritage Christian School). New Day Gables Academy is under the direction of the founder's son, Dr. James Meffen III, and Mark Zamora.
The school's students are in grades seven through 12 and include at-risk teens as well as those who have trouble learning in a traditional school setting. The directors work directly with parents and make home visits to address any issues outside the school.
The school uses the A Beka program, a Christian-based curriculum, and the students take missionary trips to countries outside the U.S.
