History
Free IT Athens was founded in the autumn of 2005 by Michael Luchtan, Michael Moore, and Semmy Purewal. Since its inception, Free IT Athens has provided over 1,000 computers to individuals, over 200 computers to over two dozen community groups, and has responsibly recycled many tons of unusable equipment. In 2012, we had over 250 volunteers contribute over 3,150 hours of volunteer service! We refurbished and distributed over 100 computers to those in the Athens, Georgia community and saved tens of thousands of pounds of electronic waste from ending up in landfills.
Specialties
Free I.T. Athens is dedicated to providing reclaimed and refurbished technology as well as educational opportunities to those in need. We are also proponents of free and open source software. We provide donation based technical support, free computers to volunteers, education, computers for non-profits and community groups, and refurbished computers, parts and accessories through our thrift store. Don't donate your computer to a recycler! Let us put it to good use! We accept donations of computers and computer accessories. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization so your donation is tax-deductible. For more information on what we accept and what happens to your donation visit freeitathens(dot)org/donate.
