E. Rivers Elementary is one of Atlanta's oldest schools and boasts a distinguished and numerous alumni. Opened in 1917, the original school burned down in 1949, with the present building built from 1951 to 1952.
The student population is 40 percent white, 28 percent black and 25 percent Hispanic, with the rest different races. In state tests for third through fifth grade, 94 percent meet or exceeded the passing score in reading, 95 percent in language arts and 83 percent in math. The school was named for Atlanta real estate developer Eretus Rivers, who developed the area. Like other Buckhead schools, E. Rivers offers the International Baccalaureate program.
