On the banks of the Etowah River and near Allatoona Dam, Cooper's Furnance Day Use Area, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has a multi-purpose field, volley ball and horseshoe areas, boat ramp and picnic tables and pavilions.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the site was an Antebellum industrial Center and visitors today can see the cold blast furnace. It dates back to 1863.
The day use area sits on the opposite side of the river from the Riverside Day Use Area and provides access to Corps' Cooper's Furnace Trail, a 2-mile easy path that follows the route of a 19th Century mining railroad.
