Beloved by Atlanta's tennis community, "Bitsy" Grant is a landmark in the game's history here. This tennis center is named for Grant, who played at the courts in Atlanta's Memorial Park. A fierce competitor, standing just 5-foot-4-inches tall, Grant won the U.S. Clay Court title three times and played on three U.S. Davis Cup teams. He won 19 national senior tennis titles.
The Tennis Center bearing his name hosted the 1955 U.S. Clay Court Championships and other national tournaments. Bitsy Grant is the largest public tennis facility in the city and the only one with clay courts open to the public. It has 13 clay courts, six lit, and 10 hard courts. It also houses the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame. The Friends of Bitsy Grant is a fund-raising organization seeking to renovate the historic clubhouse.
