History
Beacon Baptist Church of Albany, GA was constituted on June 14, 1964, after a group of about 34 Christian adults and a number of children had met, prayed, and determined God's will about a new church where they could worship and serve him. Shortly after organization, the church became part of the Mallary Baptist Association and the Southern Baptist Convention. Beacon was founded out of a desire to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ advanced among the nations, and that desire still burns bright among her people today. God has been faithful to Beacon, and Beacon is determined to remain faithful to God in standing firm on the inerrancy of the Bible, the centrality of the person and work of Christ, the necessity of personal repentance and faith in Jesus, and the biblical expectation of meaningful church membership. We're not where we need to be - but by God's grace, we're not where we used to be, either. God will complete what he began in us, for the praise of his glory! (Philippians 1:6)
Specialties
We're a friendly church that is intentionally and passionately committed to growing in grace through the unchanging truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. You'll find that we're unique amidst a sea of church options in Albany: we treasure the Scriptures -- every last word of them -- because they lead us to the living Christ. Our earnest desire is that everything that we do take place in conformity with what God has so clearly revealed in the Bible. In other words, we are working to be distinctly Bible-centered and radically Christ-focused in our living and our worship! Our pastor focuses on systematic, expository, Christ-centered preaching from the Bible to lead us in this. We definitely don't get it right all the time, but we see more each day that we are deeply flawed and sinful people who have been fully forgiven through the mercy and free grace of God. We desire to put our faith into action, and to help others to treasure Christ, as we're learning to do. Come glorify God with us!
