Originally used as an emergency landing field in the 1940s, the Barrow County Airport today serves corporate business and general aviation travelers. It is managed by the seven-member Barrow County Airport Authority and is home to the Georgia Air National Guard's 148th medical company air ambulance and detachment 8 of company B 935DASB. Runway 13-31 is 5,500 by 100 feet and an instrument landing system is under construction. A smaller runway, Runway 5-23, is 3,610 by 100 feet. Businesses located at the airport include heavy lift operator Aircrane Inc., a Cessna Pilot Center that offers pilot training, and the certified repair station Georgia Avionics and Romanair, which offers airframe and power-plant maintenance.
