The second high school to serve Barrow County, Apalachee opened in 2000. It is currently helmed by principal David McGee, who oversees the school's faculty and more than 1,500 students.
Apalachee High School is a Title I school, meaning at least 40 percent of the total student population receives free and reduced lunches. In 2009, about 53 percent of Apalachee's students qualified for free and reduced lunch. As a Title I school, Apalachee receives special funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
