American Honda Motor opened its first United States plant in 1979. The company has Honda automobile, motorcycle and power-equipment dealerships throughout the U.S. In October 1946, Soichiro Honda established the Honda Technical Research Institute in Hamamatsu, Japan, to develop and produce 2-cycle motorbike engines. Two years later, Honda Motor Company was founded, and in 1959, Honda opened its first storefront in Los Angeles. The Alpharetta, Ga., location is the power equipment headquarters. It also is a finance and parts center.
