The Meat Inspection Office governs and regulates the statutes on meat slaughter and processing plants throughout the state of Georgia. It is responsible for the inspection of the state, federal and custom-exempt slaughter facilities under the Talmadge-Aiken Act. The office oversees the regulatory compliance oversight of meat products in commercial areas. It additionally inspects the slaughter and processing of farm-raised deer, emu, ostrich and rhea. The office provides program management, compliance supervision and plant design reviewing services. The Meat Inspection Office is operated by the Animal Industry Division, which also operates animal health and protection offices. The Animal Industry Division is a part of the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
